Grassroots Action to Support House Passage of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill
ACEC member action is needed to support House passage of H.R. 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act, bipartisan legislation to reauthorize expiring surface transportation programs.
The five-year bill authorizes a total of $580 billion through Fiscal Year 2031, including $375 billion for roads and bridges and $87 billion for transit programs out of the Highway Trust Fund. Every state will see a 3.4% increase in their formula funding compared to current law. The bill also features a number of ACEC priorities, including support for State DOTs to utilize lump sum contracts for engineering services; project delivery reforms; and, grant funding for technology advancements.
Members of Congress need to hear from engineering firms in their districts that passage of this bill should be a priority before current federal transportation programs expire at the end of September.
