The Governor and the Arizona Department of Water Resources recently announced a new groundwater model covering much of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The model projects a groundwater deficit of 4% of currently dedicated groundwater supplies at the end of the 100-year modeling period. As a result of the announcement, the Arizona Department of Water Resources stated it will no longer approve assured water supply applications in the Phoenix AMA that rely on groundwater.
