To the ACEC Community,
Several members of our Advocacy team were in Chicago last week for the Democratic National Convention. It was a hugely productive week for ACEC. All told, we connected with more than two dozen Members of Congress, including House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Rick Larsen, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Suzan DelBene, and Democratic Senate Campaign Committee Chair Gary Peters. ACEC’s homebase served as a hub for meetings and events, with every encounter an opportunity to discuss the priorities of our industry and firms.
But it’s even more than that. As in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention, our very presence sent the message that we are engaged – and that we are watching. Political conventional wisdom holds that one shouldn’t put much stock in polls taken before Labor Day. Certainly, if the last few months have taught us anything, it’s that electoral fortunes can change overnight. The balance of power in Washington is almost certain to remain extremely close, irrespective of who wins the White House or which party controls Congress. This is the time when platforms are being formed, ideas and priorities are shaped for both Chambers and the prospective administration, and this is the time to be sure the policy agenda for engineering is communicated clearly and effectively. Fortune favors the prepared.
We’re less than two months from our own Fall Conference in New Orleans, for which we have secured a roster of engaging and inspirational speakers. We have an astrophysicist with a truly incredible personal story of determination in the face of doubt, an AI pioneer renowned for her work in helping firms navigate the brave new world of emerging technologies, a productivity expert whose narrative is framed around a bucket list born of loss, and an extreme endurance athlete with a message of perseverance and purpose. Our events team also has put together a fantastic program of educational sessions and networking opportunities. This is a chance to connect and collaborate, and to tap into ACEC’s greatest resource: our members.
Early bird rates apply until September 20, so there is still time to take advantage of the reduced registration fee. We also have daily rates available for those unable to attend the entire conference. Information about how to register for the Conference can be found here.
Finally, as we head into Labor Day, I hope the upcoming long weekend will be a safe, fun ending to a summer that was filled with adventure when you wanted it and relaxation when you needed it. We’ll be back next Tuesday, ready to charge into what is sure to be a busy and momentous fall.
Have a great week,
Linda Bauer Darr
